Firefighter Chad Allison’s hard work and dedication to the Department has earned the respect and admiration of fellow fire fighters.

For the past five years, Firefighter Allison has volunteered hundreds of hours to the Pioneer Hook and Ladder Museum, working his way up to Museum Director. He has assisted with repairs and maintenance of the building, fund raising, and creating new exhibits to display the history of the Fire Service in San Diego.

Firefighter Allison has also contributed his time to many community organizations such as the San Diego Burn Institute, where he helped to fund and construct the “Children’s Fire Safety Room.” Other organizations that have benefited from Fire Fighter Allison’s commitment to provide public service are the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of San Diego County, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Bruce Lukaszewicz (BELphotos) > Jonathan Atkinson – Firefighter of the Year Award 

Firefighter Jonathan Atkinson has been called the “complete Firefighter.” He is knowledgeable, well rounded and unselfish. Firefighter Atkinson is committed to his profession and many of his fellow Firefighters who work beside him feel fortunate to do so. 

Throughout his career, Firefighter Atkinson has consistently applied himself to the betterment of the Fire-Rescue Department. As a senior firefighter, he makes other’s jobs easier. He is an invaluable resource for fire officers, handling station administration issues, with little or no supervision. His knowledge of Fire Department policies and procedures is unsurpassed by others. 

Firefighter Atkinson has tremendous building construction and maintenance experience, and you will often find him doing extra work around the station after all his regular duties are finished. Whether refinishing a workbench in the back of a fire station, painting a station wall, repairing tools and equipment for the fire house museum, or repairing the plumbing, Atkinson can be counted on time and time again. Firefighter Atkinson is a man of character who wishes only to do the right thing. 

For the past seven year, Firefighter Atkinson also works at the Department’s Repair Facility helping to outfit new apparatus. His woodworking, metal fabrication and engineering skills allow him to be instrumental in the design and installation of equipment on new fire apparatus purchased by the San Diego Fire Department. 

Firefighter Atkinson’s latest contribution is his participation in the San Diego Firefighters Emerald Society Pipes and Drums Corp. As a board member, he is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of events and also plays the pipes in the Emerald Society Pipes and Drum Corp representing the Department at funerals, parades and community events. 

At emergency incidents, Firefighter Atkinson is an aggressive Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician. He can be counted on to complete all assignments in a safe manner with little supervision. The Fire-Rescue Department is proud and honored to award Firefighter Jonathan Atkinson the Firefighter of the Year Award for his outstanding commitment and dedication to the Department.
